Obituary

Rose Anne (Schramm) Nelson, 89, a resident of Bowden, WV, passed from this life on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Mountain Memories in Elkins and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Rose was born Sunday, November 25, 1934, in Wentworth, SD, a daughter of the late Herbert Schramm and Maria Bertha Wilhelmina Erdmann Schramm. On July 6, 1952, she married John Philip Nelson who preceded her in death in 2004.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Michael Nelson and wife Kristine of CA, Lee Nelson and wife Kim of VA, Susan Hetzer and husband Paul of Bowden, WV, and Michele McDermott of MD, six grandchildren, Matthew and Jeremy Nelson, Kari Smedley, Justin and Brian McDermott, and Gavyn Hetzer, four great-grandchildren, Tanner, Caleb, Jonathon, and Violet, and one brother, Duane Schramm and wife Jo of CA.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were three siblings, Kenny, Gail, and Ruth.

Rose was a graduate of Aurelia School and then obtained her Master of Education degree from George Washington University, serving as a teacher and assistant principal. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and her family was her number one priority. Rose loved to travel all over the world with her husband John when he was in the Navy. That love continued after they retired and were free to travel in their RV. After John passed, Rose found her second passion; she volunteered at the Calvert Marine Museum on the Chesapeake Bay in southern Maryland. Rose shared her passion for life and family through her stories for all who would listen. Rose attended Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Goodness of God – Example Memorial Choir

This song embodies the way John lived his life. In every situation, no matter the difficulty, he would proclaim God’s goodness.

John lived a life devoted to Jesus. He spent the majority of his career as a music minister & choir director in churches around the US. The Example family put out a call for anyone who had served with John to join a virtual choir in his honor. What you see here is just a small picture of his legacy impact on the Kingdom of God. We pray this song blesses you and encourages you today.
